Delays hit bus passes

TOWNSFOLK are being warned to expect delays in the National Free Bus Pass scheme, which is set to start next month.

Wychavon District Council will issue temporary passes to those who want to travel outside Worcestershire.

The action follows likely delays by Fujitsu in producing the new free bus passes, which are set to come into effect on April 1.

Louise Bennett, from Wychavon District Council, said: "We're doing everything we can to ensure that residents can take full advantage of the scheme despite the delays to the national pass."

Residents' current passes will continue to work on local journeys in the county, but those wishing to travel outside of the area will need to visit their nearest contact centre with their current local pass.

When travelling throughout England residents will need to show both a local Wychavon pass and the temporary national pass. When the new national pass is ready it will be posted directly to eligible residents.

People with queries should contact the Worcestershire Hub on 01905 765943 or visit the town's Community Contact Centre in Droitwich Spa High Street.

Why has this only just come up. Birmingham has been preparing for this event for well over 12 months and their pensioners have the new passes
