A GROUP of pupils at Droitwich Spa High School are attempting to challenge the hoody' stereotype of young people by developing a range of campaigns designed at improving their local community.

Pupils were challenged by their English teacher to come up with a campaign as part of their course on persuasive writing. What started as an English project rapidly turned into a collection full of passionate campaigns. Pupils have now designed initiatives ranging from stopping racism in football; improving facilities for young people in Droitwich and raising awareness about HIV and AIDS.

Teacher Jane Christopher said: "I know that the students have really been inspired by this work and seeing the relevance of their studies to their local community."

One pupil said: "We've really enjoyed doing this campaign. It's been brilliant to get our voices heard and show what young people can do given the chance."
